Historically, hospital medical staff organizations have relied on personal references for assurance of a new applicant’s clinical competency. In this day and age, one needs to ask - is that system adequate?
In this webinar, our presenters, Mark Smith, MD and Renee Aird Dengler, RN, MS, CPMSM, CPCS, FMSP will focus on the role of references in the credentialing process tracing the historic use and its evolution to the present day. Also, they will describe what a personal reference needs to contain and the methods for a timely turnaround. The discussion will include examination of alternatives to personal references. The perspectives for this process will include single organizations, system level credentialing and the role of a CVO as well. At the end, best practices for contemporary credentialing practices related to references will be described.
